About 700kg of rubbish is thrown into the Klang River and plastic is one of the highest wastes found polluting the river. They are the key role in clogging drainage systems in Kuala Lumpur, and causing horrendous sight and impacts to the Klang River.

In conjunction with #WorldEnvironmentDay celebration and holy month of Ramadan, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Malaysia and Global Environment Centre (GEC) will be hosting awareness campaign entitled CLEAN Bazaar Ramadan to curb plastic pollution plaguing the Klang River. The campaign aims to encourage consumers in Kuala Lumpur to #BeatPlasticPollution by bringing their own containers and bag when buying food and drinks at Ramadan Bazaar, instead of using plastic packaging and styrofoam. The campaign will be held from 3.30pm to 7.00pm, starting June 1 until June 5, 2018 at Ramadan Bazaar Jalan Telawi in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur.

This campaign is also part of the River of Life Public Outreach Programme that promotes a sense of ownership towards the river and initiates long term and sustainable change in behaviours towards protecting the river.

Step 1: REGISTER . Starting June 1, come to GEC booth at Ramadan Bazaar Jalan Telawi in Bangsar from 4 pm – 6pm to register yourself and get a redeem card

Step 2: BRING YOUR OWN CONTAINER AND BAG. Bring and use your own food containers and reusable bags to pack food and drinks

Step 3: COLLECT POINTS AND REDEEM YOUR PRIZE. Every 3 points you gain from using your reusable containers to pack food and drinks, you will get free grocery items.
