KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) sent a team of contractors and workers to parks and playgrounds in the city during the weekend to cut the grass and spruce up the areas.

Residents in Sri Hartamas, Sunway SPK Damansara, Taman Tun and Jalan Kelang Lama said DBKL workers were seen cleaning up the places.

“It is nice to see them cutting the grass and we apprecaite the help,” said Happy Garden resident May Lee.

Lee said a team of workers had come on Saturday to clean up the playground in Jalan Nyaman 10.

A reader, who only identified himself as Low, also reported a similar scene in Sri Hartamas while a resident in Taman Tun called to say that the park in Jalan Athinahapan 6 had been spruced up.

Sunway SPK Damansara Residents Association chairman Jespal Sidhu said a team from DBKL had also cleaned up the five parks and playgrounds in the area.

Meanwhile, in conjunction with “Kuala Lumpur Cleaning Day”, DBKL’s Segambut branch organised a community programme to clean up Taman Lembah Kiara, a popular recreational park in Taman Tun Dr Ismail on Saturday.

Themed “Clean Kuala Lumpur, Healthy Citizens”, the programme was aimed to inculcate, educate and create awareness among the local community about the importance of cleanliness and a shared responsibility to ensure a green and safe neighbourhood.

More than 300 people took part in the programme, comprising schoolchildren, residents associations, Alam Flora, Yayasan Anak Warisan Alam, Global Environment Centre and various non-profit organisations.
