THE participation of Formula One drivers, Rubens Barrichello (AT&T Williams), Heikki Kovalainen (Lotus Racing) and Mark Webber (Red Bull Racing), made the recent MD Cup 10th Anniversary Challenge “Drive for Charity” golf event an unforgettable experience for the other participants.

The event, which took place at the Saujana Golf and Country Club, was held in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of Bridgestone Tyre Sales (M) Sdn Bhd.

The Drive for Charity was also in support of, the Make Cars Green campaign, a joint collaboration between the Fédération Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA) and the Bridgestone Corporation, which promotes greener motoring.

Bridgestone will match the amount collected from the charity auction, which has so far raised RM16,320.

These funds will be contributed to the Global Environment Centre (GEC) – a non-profit organisation established in 1998 to address key environmental issues.

GEC has been a strong voice for the environment through its programmes in Forest and Biodiversity, Peatland, River Care, Outreach and its Partnership Programme.

According to Takashi Aoki, managing director of Bridgestone Tyre Sales Malaysia Sdn Bhd, the company considers the environment to be an integral and important part of all its business activities.

“As an affiliate of the world’s largest tyre producer, we are committed to helping our customers conserve natural resources through continual product improvements. Besides that, we also take efforts to promote green motoring through initiatives such as the “Make Cars Green” campaign,” he added.

During the fund-raising drive, participating guests had a rare chance to bid in an auction for an exclusive collector’s golf bag personally signed by the three F1 drivers.
