Bridgestone Tyre Sales (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd contributed a total of RM110,820 to the Global Environment Centre (GEC), a non-profit organisation committed to environmental preservation.

The funds were raised from a series of charity drives held recently as part of Bridgestone’s ‘Make Cars Green’ initiatives to help raise public awareness about green motoring and rally support for environmental projects.

Bridgestone Tyre Sales (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd managing director Takashi Aoki presented a cheque for the amount to Global Environment Centre director Faizal Parish at a ceremony held at the Bukit Kiara Park recently.

To commemorate International Biodiversity Day 2010 on May 22 (the theme of which is Biodiversity for Development) - Bridgestone is supporting the work of GEC to plant 2,000 trees at several sites including the Raja Musa Peat Swamp Forest Reserve, Selangor; Kuala Gula Mangrove Forest, Perak; and Taman Persekutuan Bukit Kiara.

The move demonstrates the corporate social responsibility of Bridgestone to offset carbon dioxide emission and reduce Bridgestone’s carbon footprint to preserve the environment.

According to Takashi Aoki, Bridgestone considers the environment to be an integral and important part of all its business activities.

This was just part of a series of green initiatives by Bridgestone in the future and a long-term support to the eco-preservation efforts.

As an affiliate of the world’s largest tyre producer, Bridgestone Malaysia is committed to helping its customers conserve natural resources through continual product improvement.

Besides that, the company also takes efforts to promote green motoring through initiatives such as the ‘Make Cars Green’ campaign.

Make Cars Green is an international environmental campaign led by Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and Bridgestone.

It aims to reduce the impact of motoring on our planet by encouraging considerate and eco-friendly mobility.

This includes introducing the public to more fuel-efficient driving behaviour and techniques through a ‘10-point guide’ for greener motoring.

Since the launch of Make Cars Green in 2008, Bridgestone has been actively promoting the awareness of green motoring globally.
