GETTING everyone involved in recycling may not be a simple task but Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Yong Dai Ying gamely rose to the challenge by organising the Smart Ranger Recycling Festival recently.  

The event, organised with the Global Environment Centre, saw students from five schools and Kampung Kayu Ara residents join in the cause.

They cam with recyclable items including glass, paper and aluminium cans as well as handicraft made from waste materials and proposals on how to solve solid waste problems.  

During the event, visitors were given a talk on Compost and Solid Waste Management in an effort to convey knowledge of how to incorporate recycling in their daily lives.

“We hope to raise the people’s awareness of recycling as this will result in a more comfortable and harmonious place for all,” Yong said.  

The Housing and Local Government ministry’s National Solid Waste Management Department director-general Dr Nadzri Yahaya, who was also present, said Malaysians would be advised to sort out their household waste from next year.  

“The Government will implement penalties after one-and-a-half years to fine those who fail to do so,” he said.
