TO promote awareness on recycling and saving resources, Petaling Jaya Recycling Expo 2007 will be back again this year with new activities to educate the public.  

The event organised by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will be held over three days from Nov 3. NGOs, colleges and residents associations also support it.

This time, the event will feature activities such as an organic bazaar, craft and composting demos, stamp exhibition related to the environmental theme, recyclables demo and more.  

On the third day, the Global Environment Centre (GEC) will hold a Smart Ranger programme to 300 students from 20 schools in Petaling Jaya on rubbish management.  

GCE River Care programme coordinator Dr. K. Kalithasan said the students will be taught to see rubbish as a resource and not rubbish and the end of the programme will give each student given a certificate.  

It will be held at the Civic Centre.  

In the organic bazaar, there will be sale of organic food, organic fertilizers and organic and vegetarian food cooking demos.  

Kampung Tunku assemblyman Datuk Dr. Wong Sai Hou said the public were required to bring his or her own plates during the launch reception of the event at Menara MBPJ on Nov 3 by mayor Mohamad Roslan Sakiman,.  

He said the idea was to educate the public on recycling methods.  

“Having said that, please don't bring Styrofoam plates as it defeats the purpose of recycling.  

“Those who does not bring their own plates, there will also be sale of plates,” he said at a press conference. Also present at the event were Local Agenda 21 officer Lee Lih Shyan and environmental  

The expo will start at 9am to 4pm on Nov 3 and 4.
