Green movement getting greener

CANON Marketing (Malaysia) revealed that its Canon Goes Green Movement has garnered fabulous response from Malaysians of all walks of life.

Launched on Sept 2, its microsite www.canongoesgreen.com has been deluged with hundreds of photos being submitted to fulfil Canon’s pledge of 2,500 trees to enrich the green lung at Padang Kota Damansara.

At the moment, more than 1,137 photos have been received. Each photo submitted gives back a tree to the environment and Canon is hoping to surpass its target, which will represent the public’s support for this cause.

“We at Canon are thrilled and excited over the support and response we have had so far” said Liew Sip-chon, president and CEO of Canon Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd.

“With the number of photos submitted to date, we believe we are on track to deliver on our promise.

“Hence, we would like to invite all individuals, firms, companies, etc, to join us in this movement to save the [designated] green lung for our future generation.”

The Padang Kota Damansara area is a green lung amidst the busy township of Kota Damansara.

With a forest cover of approximately 10ha, the area has big potential to support public educational programmes.

However, the forest needs to be further enriched with local tree species and care for it to be a plush green recreational spot for the surrounding community.

Global Environment Centre (GEC), together with the Petaling Jaya City Council and Forestry Department will be providing advice and assistance on post-planting care and maintenance to the local community groups.

The tree-planting event, slated to be held on Oct 19, requires approximately 500 volunteers. Those interested can register online at canongoesgreen.com.

The EnvironMENTALS will also be present to show their support and display some of their efforts to save the earth.

The canongoesgreen.com microsite is still open to receive photo contributions and for volunteers to sign up for the tree-planting day.
