Empowering Orang Asli in Climate Mitigation and Adaptation in Peat Swamps in Selangor and Pahang

The project aims to support Orang Asli communities in selected peatland areas in Bukit Cheeding in Selangor and Tanjung Kelapa in Pahang.

Aim/Objectives: (1) Enhance the rehabilitation of the degraded peatland forests and prevent fire in selected portions of the SEPPSF to reduce GHG emissions and support adaptation for the Orang Asli community. (2) Improve the living condition of the Orang Asli community in Tanjung Kelapa and enable them to contribute to the forest rehabilitation programmes.

Key Activities: 

    • Provide 2 in 1 solar system and water pump for safe portable water source.
    • Support rewetting effort by construction of canal blocks
    • Support revegetation effort 
    • Enhancing community livelihood knowledge by hosting training on apiculture farming sustainable agriculture practices.

Key Outcomes:

    • Provide a 2-in-1 solar water pump that can generates electricity for Kampung Orang Asli Melogo with construction of tube-well for clean ground water.
    • Install one canal block near Kampung Orang Asli Melogo.
    • Initiates planting activities near buffer zone of Pekan (Extension) Forest Reserve with 140 trees to enhance improve the landscape.
    • Provided community with Apiculture Farming training as well as initiates Volvariella mushroom cultivation.
