Senior Programme Officer Peatland and Climate Change – Peatland Programme
Responsibilities:
- Develop and coordinate implementation of projects related to wetland (including peatland) assessment and management and /or climate change mitigation and adaptation;
- To provide technical guidance for active project activities at local, national, regional and global levels related to wetlands (particularly peatlands and mangroves), biodiversity, and climate change;
- Develop partnerships with government agencies, international development agencies, private sector and community groups in Malaysia and other countries in the Asia Pacific region;
- Participate in regional and international conferences and meetings; and
- Develop proposals for funding by international agencies
Job Requirements:
- Self-motivated and able to work both as a team member and independently
- Minimum Bachelor Degree in Environment, Forestry, Agriculture or Natural Resource Management
- Minimum 5-10 years of relevant working experience
- Good knowledge of forest, agriculture, biodiversity, climate change issues and/or peatland/plantation management an added advantage
- Good technical and report writing skills
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Fluency in other languages (Malay/Indonesian/Chinese) will be an added advantage
- Competency in computer and internet use
- Driving license and own transport
- Willingness to travel
- Good PR skills

GIS Officer – Forest & Coastal Programme
Responsibilities:
As the GIS Officer for the Forest & Coastal Programme at GEC, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing technical support on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications and tools for forest and coastal management projects;
- Implementing GIS-based projects on community-based management of forests, wetlands and agroforestry in Malaysia, including conservation, rehabilitation, hydrology management, fire prevention and control, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, agroforestry, and other relevant areas;
- Developing spatial analysis and mapping products to support project planning, monitoring, and evaluation;
- Collaborating with project teams to integrate GIS into project activities and decision-making processes;
- Managing and maintaining GIS databases, ensuring data quality, integrity, and security;
- Conducting spatial analysis, modeling, and visualization to support project objectives;
- Supporting capacity building and knowledge sharing on GIS tools and applications within project teams and partner organisations;
- Assisting in the development of spatial data infrastructure and standards for project implementation;
- Contributing to the development and implementation of awareness and education programs related to GIS and spatial data for stakeholders, including school students, local communities, and other relevant groups; and
- Representing GEC at local and national meetings, conferences, and seminars related to GIS and spatial data management.
Job Requirements:
- Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimum supervision.
- A degree in geographic information system technology. geography, environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field.
- Minimum 3-6 years of relevant working experience involving GIS analysis and application in community development or natural resource management projects.
- Proficiency in GIS software such as Esri Malaysia, ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in field conditions and adapt to irregular working hours as required.
- Pleasant personality with good public relations capabilities.
- Fluent in Malay and English.
