Tanamera Green Project
A CIMB ECOSAVE COMMUNITY PROJECT 2010

CIMB Islamic Eco Save Community Project 2010 is supporting the Tanamera Green Project, a community action initiative undertaken in collaboration with Global Environment Centre (GEC) and Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ). The project, conceptualized by concerned residents is intended for initiating a movement that will educate and inspire the Tanamera Residence’s community to build a greener future. It is the community’s first step towards adopting sustainable lifestyles by reducing their household organic waste and turning them into compost which then feeds their herb gardens.  Residents will also learn how to practice 3R (reduce, reuse and recycle) at home. This project will be part of the MBSJ on-going community green efforts and peer learning process between green community groups in the district.

The project will start with a Tanamera Green Day Event on 14 November 2010. Residents participating in the Green Project will be provided with composting bins and herb garden starter kit by GEC and MBSJ. Other activities include Eco Games and craft making for family members.  Children can take part in poster and colouring competitions with environment themes. Selected local indigenous tree species such as “pokok bunga cengkih” and “kayu manis” will be planted at the community green area for landscaping and educational purposes. There will also be Eco Merchandise such as organic food and herbs, tropical spa products and many more.

We invite all CIMB EcoSave account holders to join us in this event and pick up tips and information on 3R and how you can start at home as well.

3R@Home is Easy with Recycle and Reward Programme

Tanamera Go Green Project will partner with Recycle and Reward programme www.recycleandreward.my to make recycling easy and much more rewarding for Tanamera Community. All they have to do is exchange recyclable items for points, which can be accumulated and use to redeem “rewards” later on. These rewards range from grand prizes such as a PS3 and iPods to smaller items such as supermarket gift vouchers and rice cookers.

The process is ingeniously simple – just sign up for the programme on the website www.recycleandreward.my and pay a RM15 fee. You will then receive two custom-made green rucksack into which you can throw your recyclables and, when it is full, it will be picked up from your home.

With the Recycle And Reward programme, it’s as simple as that. Learn more from Recycle and Reward booth during the Tanameera Go Green Day. Recycle and Reward will be happy to make their first round of collection on that day. So collect all your recyclables and earn your points!

MAKE your OWN COMPOST
What is compost and why should we do composting? What do you do with the stuff when you've made it? One of the best ways to jump into composting is to understand the value of finished compost.
  • Less garbage means less pollution That's a good way to save the environment!
  • Lessens the burden on landfills. Now this is a BIG issue these days. We need to learn about how to compost and recycle effectively so that landfills do not become mere dumping grounds for laziness, ignorance, or over-consumption.
  • Free soil additive and natural fertilizer. Well-made compost is naturally balanced with nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium (N-P-K), and is nutrient-rich with a host of beneficial microorganisms. This means you are "growing the soil" without artificial inputs such as synthetic fertilizers that are often too high in nitrogen. A healthy organic soil makes for more nutritional vegetables.
  • Lowers water usage when used as soil mulch. Compost protects exposed soils from drying out. The soil retains moisture beneath top-dressings of compost and this means less watering!
