Green lung movement receives support

CANON Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd (Canon) announced recently that its Canon Goes Green Movement has been garnering good response.

The movement, launched on Sept 2 received many photos via its website www.canongoesgreen.com.

According to the company’s president and CEO Liew Sip Chon, it is on track to fulfil its pledge to plant 2,500 trees to enrich the green lung at Padang Kota Damansara.

So far, 1,137 photos have been submitted. Each photo submitted gives back a tree to the environment.

“We are excited over the support. We would like to invite everyone to join us in saving the green lung for our future generation,’ said Liew.

Some of the trees to be planted include Cengal, Meranti Tembaga and Meranti Rambai Daun as well as indigenous fruit trees such as Kundang, Mentega, Binjai, Keranji, and Rokam.

The Global Environment Centre (GEC), Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and Forestry Department will provide advice and assistance on post planting care and maintenance to the local community.

The tree-planting event, slated to be held on Oct 19 requires about 500 volunteers to plant the saplings.

So far, the movement has managed to garner support from some residents associations in Kota Damansara, volunteers and those who had registered at canongoesgreen.com.

“The public can expect some interesting painting, environmental education and face painting activities and of course the highlight of the day, tree planting,” said Liew.

The canongoesgreen.com microsite is still open to receive photo contributions and for volunteers to sign up for the tree-planting day.
