Strengthening Community Awareness in RPS Runchang, PahangGEC, with support from SMPEM and other partners, organised a CEPA programme that brought together 84 local community members and representatives from various agencies, with a focus on peatland conservation, fire prevention and El Niño.The programme featured sessions on:✅ El Niño and weather conditions by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia)✅ Fire safety and emergency response by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (BOMBA)✅ Open burning and related legislation by the Department of Environment (DOE)✅ Peatland biodiversity and conservation by GECThe programme also included a colouring competition for children and a hands-on fire extinguishing demonstration, where local villagers had the opportunity to practise basic fire response techniques under the guidance of BOMBA personnel.These activities help strengthen community awareness and preparedness in protecting the Southeast Pahang Peat Swamp Forest.#peatmatters #ElNino #fire #smpem #globalenvironmentcentre
