Programme Officer (Remote)
Responsibilities:
- To support the study of overall environmental assessment of Sungai Johor River Basin;
- To plan and conduct stakeholder consultation involving government, private sector, businesses, community, public and other stakeholders to deliver the study outcome;
- To conduct desktop review, field visits, pollution mapping, water quality and hydrology study;
- To identify, suggest and recommend best management practices for river rehabilitation focusing on Water Volumetric concept;
- To lead study report writing and other associated technical reports; and
- To lead project reporting and project updates to relevant stakeholders.
Job Requirements:
- Initial period: Work from home (2026)
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and in teams.
- Well-versed in green and brown issues both in rural and urban areas.
- Experienced in project planning and implementation.
- Strong communication skills.
- Minimum Master’s degree in Environment Conservation, related or equivalent with at least 2 years’ experience in conducting river assessment study or related field.
- Knowledge on water volumetric balance.
- Fluent in minimum 2 languages, English and Bahasa Malayu with good writing and communication skills.
- Willingness to travel and be independent at project site.
- Driving license and own transport is an advantage.
- IT competent in word, spreadsheet and social media content creation.
- Able to work flexibly, including weekend if required.

Senior Programme Officer
Duty Station: Pekan, Pahang
Senior Programme Officer
Responsibilities:
- Implement and manage a range of existing projects at site level;
- Undertake project activities such as studies, awareness programmes, networking and information exchange;
- Prepare technical and management reports;
- Communicate and working with partner agencies at local level (local government, private sector, Civil Society Organisations, and indigenous people and local community groups);
- Plan and execute community development and empowerment events/programmes;
- Working with partner agencies in Malaysia and overseas;
- Input to development of new projects and activities; and
- Contribute to other elements of the Peatland Programme as appropriate;
Job Requirements:
- Degree in Environmental or Natural Resource Management.
- Fluent in English and Malay with good writing skills.
- Experience in computer and basic software skills – e.g. Microsoft office.
- Experience in management of forest, natural resources, peatland, biodiversity, climate change and/or plantation issues.
- Minimum 10 years relevant working experience.
- Experience in communication with multi-stakeholder, including government agencies and indigenous community.
- Experience in awareness event organisation and information exchange.
- Experience in multidisciplinary teams an advantage.
- Willingness to work with indigenous communities.
- Willingness to station at Pekan, Pahang.

RIVER CARE PROGRAMME

Duty Station: Petaling Jaya, Selangor (GEC HQ)
Programme Officer (Two vacancies)
Responsibilities:
- To support implementation of activities related to river basin management, water conservation, environmental stewardship, resource management mainly through nature-based solutions as well pollution and disaster management especially flood preparedness and community resilience;
- To promote stakeholder mainly community engagement, community participation, building positive partnership through integrated river basin management;
- To establish link with community groups and engage them in the project through series of activities, workshops, events and initiatives which lead to project sustainability;
- Work with existing and new stakeholders including government, private sector, university, community and public to plan and deliver outcome that help to increase greater sense of stakeholder ownership into integrated river basin management;
- Contribute in planning and development of materials for sustainable water management including implementation of local biodiversity action plan, river water quality, volumetric water benefit and river health, as well as climate change;
- Able to support, organise and contribute to GEC’s environmental education, ESG and awareness programme;
- Assist in discussion, preparation and development of project/collaboration and CSR activities;
- To support project visibility and communication as key face among the local community and stakeholders during the project planning, implementation and sustainable phase;
- Seeking proactive team players who can work independently with minimal supervision, take ownership of tasks and deliver impactful results in line with project implementation requirements; and
- Seeking dedicated candidates who can perform well under pressure and actively contribute to achieving the organisation’s vision
