GEC Community Network

GLOBAL ENVIRONMENT CENTRE COMMUNITY NETWORK (GCN)

GCN is established to provide a platform that unites both existing and future community partners of GEC. This platform will foster the sharing of experience, lessons learnt and strengthen the capacity of these communities for environmental stewardship and organisation’s sustainability.

GCN Members

To date, the GCN consists of 52 members of community groups across Malaysia, and two from Indonesia.

Launching

In conjunction with its 25th Anniversary, GEC launched GCN on January 29, 2024 graced by YB Dato’ Sri Huang Tiong Sii Deputy Minister, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Malaysia.

Benefits of joining GEC Community Network (GCN)

  • Strengthening relationships with different communities under GEC and with relevant local authorities and stakeholders;  
  • Enhance community awareness, and understanding of local environmental issues, challenges and potential solutions;
  • Garnering increased community support and engagement, leading to more effective policy implementation; 
  • Opportunities for individual and community capacity development, including in sustainable livelihoods and income generation options.

GCN Member’s Responsibilities

  • Share/exchange their expertise and experience with other GCN members.
  • Participate in appropriate activities organized by the GCN 
  • Proactively maintain involvement in activities related to the GCN’s focal areas
  • Provide relevant information when requested, pertaining to their membership in the network.
  • Allow and grant permission for GEC to use relevant information (including photos and video) for non-profit purposes and community benefit
