Yesterday, GEC successfully completed hosting the third annual RMIT University Global Mobility Student Exchange Programme!The 24-day programme (28 Oct–20 Nov 2025) hosted 19 Environmental Science students and 2 academic staff for hands-on learning experience across Selangor’s critical wetland ecosystems.✨ Programme Highlights:✅ Mastery of the 5Rs (Rewetting, Reduction of Fire, Revegetation, Revitalisation, Reporting) ecosystem restoration approach across peat swamp and mangrove sites✅ Partnering with four community groups to see how locals lead conservation on the ground✅ Youth empowerment through Junior Peatland Forest Ranger activities in local schools facilitated by RMIT University students✅ Strengthened cultural competency through inaugural first Malay language immersion✅ Field-based learning in peat depth measurement, water quality assessment, biodiversity monitoring and canal blocking construction✅ Strategic collaboration with government agencies, local authorities and smallholders🤝 Looking Ahead:With the 2026 cohort confirmed, this partnership continues to position GEC as Southeast Asia's key destination for experiential environmental education — building future conservation leaders equipped with technical skills and community-centred approaches to ecosystem management.#WetlandConservation #Peatlands #Mangroves #EnvironmentalEducation #RMITUniversity #geccospec #globalenvironmentcentre ...
