The project supports the rehabilitation a portion degraded area in Pekan (Extension) Forest Reserve with fire prevention initiatives by also improving community livelihood standard for the local indigenous community.
Aim/Objectives: To restore a portion of Pekan (Extension) Forest Reserve from further degradation by implementing best management practice of peatland and empower local community within the landscape.
Key Activities:
- Rewetting degraded areas
- Initiates tree planting activity within the areas.
- Enhancement of community livelihood
- Initiates community-based fire prevention by community fire patrolling
Key Outcomes:
- Installed 4 canal blocks within the old logging canal to increase water table to support rewetting process.
- Planted 5,000 trees equivalent to 10ha on degraded land to support natural regeneration.
- Established one team of community fire patrolling team from Kampung Orang Asli Tanjung Kelapa. Pekan Pahang.
- Established community nurseries from Kampung Orang Asli Tanjung Kelapa and Chak.
