The project supports the rehabilitation of degraded areas within the Pekan (Extension) Forest Reserve through fire prevention initiatives, while also improving the economic well-being of the local Indigenous community.
Objectives:
To restore a portion of Pekan (Extension) Forest Reserve from further degradation by implementing best management practices of peatland and empower local community within the landscape.
Key Activities:
- Rewetting degraded areas.
- Initiates tree planting activity within the areas.
- Enhancement of community livelihood.
- Initiates community-based fire prevention by community fire patrolling.
Key Outcomes:
- Installed four canal blocks within the old logging canal to increase water table and support rewetting process.
- Planted 5,000 trees on 10 ha of degraded areas to support natural regeneration.
- Established one community fire patrolling team from Kampung Orang Asli Tanjung Kelapa in Pekan, Pahang.
- Established community nurseries from Kampung Orang Asli Tanjung Kelapa and Chak.
