Partnership in Conservation and Rehabilitation of North Selangor Peat Swamp Forest – Phase 2

GEC enters another two year partnership with Sime Darby Foundation to conserve and support ongoing rehabilitation of 50 hectares of degraded areas in Forest Compartment 32 and 70 of Raja Musa Forest Reserve.  The project directly addresses one of Sime Darby Foundation’s key priorities – namely the protection and preservation of the high conservation value ecosystem is protected. This project does not only dedicate itself to conservation but also to enriching the surrounding smallholders and landowners with knowledge of managing mix farming sustainably on peat soil.

Aim/objective:

  • Conservation measures for peat swamp biodiversity enhanced and showcased through demonstration the project site in FC 32 & FC 70 at Raja Musa Forest Reserve;
  • Maintain and enhance extension service and technical support to smallholders and adjacent landowners to help them improve their productivity and conserve biodiversity through sustainable livelihood development in Kg. Raja Musa & Kg. Seri Tiram Jaya; and
  • Enhancing awareness and understanding of the ecosystem approach for North Selangor Peat Swamp Forest  Management among the key stakeholders at local level.
