The Sungai Kayu Ara catchment area, located within the district of Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, originates from the forested hills of Bukit Lanjan and Bukit Kiara. It flows southwest through suburban areas such as Desa Sakti, Kampung Sungai Penchala, and Taman Tun Dr. Ismail before joining Sungai Damansara, a key tributary of the Klang River Basin.
The catchment can be categorised by a mix of dense residential, commercial and industrial land use. Unfortunately, there has been cases of river water pollution, highlighting the need for conservation efforts.
To address this, the Global Environment Centre (GEC) has partnered with OSK Foundation to empower local communities, schools, businesses and the general public. Additionally, a pollution mitigation action plan at selected premises will be implemented to minimise the impact on Sungai Kayu Ara and contribute to river conservation.
