Yayasan PETRONAS Walk4Trees Challenge (Pahang)

This project supports the Peatland Rehabilitation Activities in Pahang by engaging with local stakeholders including local indigenous community from the Jakun tribe. A portion of Nenasi (Extension) Forest Reserve has been selected for the restoration activities.

Objectives:

Restoring ecosystem through revegetation by planting native tree species while empower local communities through the activities.

Key Activities: 

    • Engaging community from Kampung OA Simpai, RPS Runchang, and Kampung OA Tanjung Kelapa for tree planting activities.
    • Community Fire Patrolling Programmes for Kampung Orang Asli Simpai.
    • Monitor key biodiversity activity within the areas using camera trap monitoring.
    • Empowering the communities that joined the restoration and fire prevention activities.
    • Monitor carbon measurement.

Key Outcomes:

    • 5,500 trees were planted in 11 ha of Nenasi (Extension) Forest Reserve.
    • Continuation engagement of Community Fire Patrolling Programmes for fire risk mitigation.
    • Community was trained to deploy came trapping to monitor wildlife species within the areas.
    • Constructed canal block to maintain water level within the desired landscape.
    • The local community were trained to record data for carbon measurement.
