This project aims to support community-based conservation for blackwater fish and other peatland biodiversity in targeted site in Pahang through multiple activities such as community based patrolling and fire prevention and restoration. These activities protect critical peat swamp forest habitat especially Sungai Bebar basin. Through this project, GEC is working closely oil palm and forestry sectors to enhance and maintain water level in drainage system and eventually enhance blackwater fish and conduct biodiversity assessment areas with and without of enhanced water levels.
This project also aims to promote conservation of blackwater fish and other peatland biodiversity through outreach and awareness programmes through the development of information and awareness materials on the importance of peat swamp forests for blackwater fish and other RTE biodiversity and undertake targeted awareness and outreach events in targeted landscapes and for key stakeholders.

- Fish assessment and biodiversity assessment in SEPPSF and SEPPL, Pahang

- Peat swamp ecosystem awareness program
Key Outcomes:
- Provide update checklist of blackwater fish species and identify endangered species
- Protecting and preserving blackwater fish and other biodiversity habitat
- Enhancing awareness among communities to protect peat swamp habitat and the ecosystem living within it.
