This project supports the Peatland Rehabilitation Activities in Sabah by engaging the local stakeholders, including the community members. A portion of Nenasi (Extension) Forest Reserve has been selected for the restoration activities.
Objectives:
Restoring ecosystem through revegetation by planting native tree species, while empower local communities through the activities.
Key Activities:
- Engage local community for tree planting activities.
- Establish Community-based Fire Patrolling Programmes.
- Monitor key biodiversity activity.
- Empower the communities that joined the restoration and fire prevention activities.
- Monitor carbon measurement.
Key Outcomes:
- Planted 5,500 trees in 14 ha of degraded land to support natural regeneration in Binsulok Forest Reserve.
- Established fire patrolling team consist of members from Kampung Lumat, Beaufort Sabah.
- Established community nurseries from Kampung Bukau & Kampung Suasa, Beaufort Sabah.
