SUNGAI SIPUT, 5 February 2026 – A new community-based ecotourism destination, Jok Maduh D’Kenang, was officially launched today in Sungai Siput, Perak. The opening ceremony was officiated by the Chairman of the Perak State Committee for Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development, YB Encik Loh Sze Yee, in support of the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign.
The ceremony gathered more than 150 attendees, including representatives from the government agencies, local organisations, educational institutions and neighbouring villages.
YB Encik Loh Sze Yee said, “In conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026, this is an important opportunity to introduce the uniqueness of Malaysia’s natural environment and the culture of local communities, particularly the Orang Asli Temiar people, to the world. The Perak State Government fully supports this effort by focusing on tourism products that are locally rooted, of high quality and that provide direct benefits to local communities, especially within the eco-tourism and cultural tourism segments.”
Developed together with the Temiar Indigenous community of Kampung Kenang, Jok Maduh D’Kenang which means “let’s go to Kenang”, offers a range of nature-based recreation, environmental learning opportunities and cultural experiences. The site offers riverfront chalets and huts, picnic and barbecue areas, clear water swimming spots along the Korbu River and cultural demonstrations of the Temiar community including animal traps, traditional cuisines and more.
Director of JAKOA State of Perak and Kedah, Harulnizam bin Abd Rahman said, “Jok Maduh D’Kenang highlights the natural beauty of Sungai Siput and the rich heritage of the Orang Asli Temiar community. This initiative successfully integrates nature, culture and conservation while providing new livelihood opportunities. It reflects our commitment to advancing ESG principles through inclusive, community-based ecotourism.”
Highlighting the importance of community involvement, GEC Director, Mr Faizal Parish said, “Our earlier success with community-based ecotourism in Kampung Tonggang, Perak demonstrated how environment stewardship and income generation can align. With the strong commitment from the Kampung Kenang community and continued support from Yayasan Hasanah and the Ministry of Finance, we are confident this model will deliver long-term positive impact. This is another successful model of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach in Perak.”
Meanwhile, Managing Director and Trustee of YH, Puan Siti Kamariah Ahmad Subki added, “At Yayasan Hasanah, we believe in impact that is long-lasting and sustainable. What matters most to us is ensuring the community’s own knowledge, traditions and values shape the growth of Jok Maduh D’Kenang. By working closely with the Kampung Kenang community, we are strengthening local community leaders with the skills and confidence to lead and sustain this effort themselves. This is how we create change that truly belongs to the community.”
Jok Maduh D’Kenang is now open to visitors seeking authentic nature and cultural experiences rooted in community leadership and environmental care. For more information and booking, visit their Facebook page “Chalet DKenang” or contact them at +60 13-606 8767.
