The Western Pacific Sustainable Peatland Management (SAGU) Project aims to reduce peatland degradation and loss across Indonesia, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea. Through peatland conservation, restoration and sustainable management, the project supports climate mitigation, biodiversity conservation and sustainable development priorities.
In Malaysia, GEC has been appointed as the consortium partner to implement the project across landscapes in Sabah and Sarawak of Borneo.
Through these landscapes, the Malaysia component aims to strengthen both upland and lowland peatland conservation and sustainable management while supporting climate resilience, biodiversity protection and the livelihoods of communities dependent on peatland ecosystems in Borneo.
