Tree Planting @ UTP

The Tree Planting @ UTP is part of an expansion of the ongoing Yayasan PETRONAS Tree Planting Programme: “Walk4Trees” Challenge implemented by GEC since 2020 to support PETRONAS sustainability agenda.

This expansion programme mainly aims to support tree planting in the UTP campus and the existing carbon sequestration through the tree planting activity.

Aim/objective:
  • To amplify Yayasan PETRONAS efforts of tree planting with a total of 550 trees within UTP.
  • To contribute to carbon sequestration by establishing carbon sinks in the form of tree planting.
  • To improve awareness and responsibility of local communities and UTPs students by giving them the opportunity, education and support in setting up nurseries, tree planting and monitoring activities.
Key Activities:
  • Planting 550 trees around UTP area, Zone A, Zone B and Core Park.
  • Implementation of the Communications, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) programme.
CEPA programme is a part of Yayasan PETRONAS’ initiatives to combat climate change by instilling awareness and action-taking behaviour to the public on tree planting activities. Under the CEPA programme, an Outdoor Environmental Education Zone (OdEEZ) at UTP will be established at Zone A.
