Yayasan PETRONAS Tree Planting Programme – PETRONAS Walk4Trees (Sabah)

This project supports the Peatland Rehabilitation Activities in Sabah by engaging the local stakeholders, including the community members. A portion of Nenasi (Extension) Forest Reserve has been selected for the restoration activities.

Objectives:

Restoring ecosystem through revegetation by planting native tree species, while empower local communities through the activities.

Key Activities: 

    • Engage local community for tree planting activities.
    • Establish Community-based Fire Patrolling Programmes.
    • Monitor key biodiversity activity.
    • Empower the communities that joined the restoration and fire prevention activities.
    • Monitor carbon measurement.

Key Outcomes:

    • Planted 5,500 trees in 14 ha of degraded land to support natural regeneration in Binsulok Forest Reserve.
    • Established fire patrolling team consist of members from Kampung Lumat, Beaufort Sabah.
    • Established community nurseries from Kampung Bukau & Kampung Suasa, Beaufort Sabah.
